Gaines Creek Park

A TC Jewel
It sat neglected for many years after Travis Country was annexed into the city in the early 1980s. Thirty eight acres of city parkland were abandoned and sometimes used for a dumping ground when budgets for maintenance of city parks were cut year after year.

But look at Gaines Creek Park now! Immediately off Republic of Texas Blvd. across from Dawn Song Drive residents can enjoy the quiet sounds of the Texas hill country. It is a little piece of nature in an area feeling the pulse of the growing city. Children can play under majestic oaks and furry friends are even welcome on a leash. A dog waste station sits at the entrance for owners’ convenience. There is a hiking trail, picnic area, plantings, a map, and, most recently, a water fountain installed by the City and benches. (Maps are also at the TC Office).

Now is an excellent time for birding as the winter migration is underway. Warblers, robins, orioles, woodpeckers and finches are all possible finds as fall progresses. Deer, fox, possums, squirrels and other wildlife call the park home year round.
